A couple of weeks ago I was asked by Instagram to write their blog for them about the London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2014 collections, I was honoured to take part in such a great project run by one of my all time favourite apps. Read the blog postHERE.
Music, fashion and photography are my great loves, so it made complete sense to be involved. Instagram is an important part of the band, as it is one of the most enjoyable ways we have for expressing what we are doing and things we love to our fans.
Please follow our instagram pages too. You can follow the band page HERE (@alpinesmusic) and my personal page HERE (@catherinealpines).
Today Clash Magazine premiered the video for 'Oasis', which was directed by Tom Beard, who has also directed videos for FKA Twigs and Florence and The Machine. As soon as I saw the video for 'Papi Pacify' I knew I wanted to work with Tom and I reached out to him at the end of 2013. We explored lots of ideas together but Tom had the idea to take inspiration from New Wave French cinema, namely films directed by Jean-Luc Goddard. 'Alphaville' was a key reference. We hope you enjoy!
Last week we filmed the video for 'Oasis', which is coming out in the next few days. The video is directed by Tom Beard. We had the most amazing day and are very excited for you to see the outcome, in the meantime here are some behind-the-scenes photos...
This month Jason Martin exhibited his sixth solo show at the Lisson Gallery in London. He presented a series of cast copper and nickel works. Originally trained as a painter in oil and acrylic, Martin began manipulating his chosen material creating incredible texture in his work, which is beautifully demonstrated here in the manner of metalic forms and strokes. This jewel-like series wonderfully embodies and connects the worlds of painting and sculpture.
Last night we went to Casely-Hayford's first ever runway show entitled 'Army of Me' for London Men's Fashion Week. Their collection combined English traditional tailoring with punk aesthetic and sports luxe to make a beautifully enticing array of designs. The looks throughout maintained a similar silhouette of elongated knits and shirts combined with sharply tailored suits and bomber jackets. Not forgetting the painterly nature of the print work seen throughout. The punk soundtrack was the perfect accompaniment, with raw, thrashing guitars and vocals. Despite the rough and ready feel of models' demeanour, the whole performance was slickly orchestrated leaving the crowd in awe. Overall, a masterful collection.
